McCulloch County is located on the Edwards Plateau at the heart of Texas Hill Country. It was named after Benjamin McCulloch, a soldier in the Texas Revolution, Ranger, major general in the Texas militia, and thereafter a major in the United States Army during the Mexican–American War.
