When it comes to the holidays, there is no shortage of fun things to do in Fredericksburg!
Here is a list of some of our favorite activities here at the office so you can make this year one to remember.
NOVEMBER 23RD: Wild Game Dinner
Join the community for a unique Hill Country evening at the Gillespie County Wild Game Dinner. This event features a wide variety of delicious buffet-style food from 21 serving stations, some of the most popular being chicken fried elk and axis back straps, grilled quail, stuffed turkey thighs, BBQ plates with trimmings and fried fish. During and after your feast, there is a raffle throughout the evening, games to play, silent auction and ending with a live auction containing over 35 items including trips, hunts, firearms and more! The proceeds benefit youth agricultural education in the Hill Country, and over the last 11 years has provided grants nearing $1,000,000.00. The event will be at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at 530 Fair Drive. The cost is $25 per person, which believe us, it’s well worth the price.
NOVEMBER 29TH: 11th Annual Lighting of the German Christmas Pyramid & Community Christmas Tree
Experience the nostalgic beauty of yesteryear this holiday season in Fredericksburg. Festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Vereins Kirche at Marktplatz with live entertainment. A short lighting ceremony and countdown will take place at 6:30 p.m. After the lighting, Santa will make his way to the Oktoberfest Halle at Marktplatz where free cookies, hot chocolate and bottle water will be available. Children are invited to take free photos with Santa (bring your own camera) and groups are encouraged to take photos at the holiday selfie station.
NOVEMBER 30TH: 9th Annual Turkey Trot 5K & 10K Run/Walk
Do you enjoy incorporating a little physical activity into your Thanksgiving holiday? Come be a part of the one mile Fun Run, 5K or 10K run or walk benefiting the MOM Center. The event will begin and end at the Fredericksburg Elementary School at 1608 N. Adams Street, starting at 7 a.m. and ending at 1:30 p.m. You can pre-register online or sign up the day of, and the Fun Run starts right at 9:30. Time to break out those running shoes!
DECEMBER 6TH: Chamber Light the Night Christmas Parade & Holiday Village of Sharing
This is a very special evening, so special we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to join in the fun! Fredericksburg’s Main Street will be lit up by a spectacular holiday night parade starting at 6:30 p.m., and since our office is right along the parade route, we’ll be open to welcome you in for a one-of-a-kind view of the event during our Customer Appreciation Holiday Party. Santa will be making an appearance to take photos with your kids, and we will be collecting donations for a charity to benefit the community. Afterward, head over to the historic Marktplatz to enjoy activities including the non-profit Holiday Village of Sharing, a family-friendly film screening, and food and wine until 9 p.m.
DECEMBER 13-14: The Christmas Journey at Bethany Lutheran Church
This live, 10-minute drive-through presentation of the Christmas story is simply amazing. It features special lighting, music, special effects, live characters and animals and is unlike anything you’ve seen before. We encourage everyone to bring their families-we will definitely be there with ours as one of our very own agents, Ginny, will be a part of the presentation along with her family! The event starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 8:30, and is free to the community as a gift from Bethany Lutheran Church. Address: 110 W. Austin Street.
NOVEMBER 29-JANUARY 5, 2020: Johnson City Lights Spectacular
For an evening you won’t forget, head out to Johnson City to enjoy the 30th anniversary of their spectacular holiday light show. This is how to do Christmas cheer right! Free to everyone and pet friendly (we love ourselves a good pup around here), this celebration runs all season long and even offers horse-drawn carriage rides to feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Fredericksburg residents can arrange for transportation to the Light Spectacular with FBG Tours by calling 830-998-8986, so no one has to miss out on the fun.
